The Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization created in 2006, by Bangladeshi American educator Salman Khan. With the stated mission of "providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere", the website supplies a free online collection of more than 2,300 micro lectures via video tutorials stored on YouTube teaching mathematics, history, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, and economics.

The Khan Academy is changing education worldwide. Teachers are now able to assign Khan's friendly 8-20 min lectures to their students to watch on their own time. It is like one-on-one tutoring with the added advantage that students can pause and rewind lessons. Teachers then use class time to work on problem sets, where the presence of a teacher can be best used to answer questions and provide individual feedback to their students. The Khan Academy is focused solely on helping students on a diverse set of topics, entirely for free.

Forbes named the Khan Academy as the 2011 Name You Need to Know in education, and he has been invited to speak at TED and GEL, as well as made an appearance on the Colbert Report and on the Gates Notes.
