City design by Jacque Fresco
We talk about civilization as though it's a static state. There are no civilized people yet, it's a process that's constantly going on... As long as you have war, police, prisons, crime, you are in the early stages of civilization." - Jacque Fresco
The Venus Project advocates an alternative vision for a sustainable new world civilization unlike any socio-economic system that has gone before. It calls for a straightforward redesign of a culture, in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable, but totally unacceptable. While Fresco's technological panacea needs to be taken with a grain of salt, his ideas and designs are worth checking out.
Societies are not established, they are an emergent property"
The main difference between Jacque Fresco's vision and the present world: a resource-based economy (RBE), where earth's resources are declared common global heritage and the main concern of society is the intelligent use of earth's resources. Such a system uses existing resources, rather than money, to provide an equitable method of distribution in the most humane and efficient manner. It is a system in which all goods and services are available to everyone without the use of money, credits, barter, or any other form of debt or servitude. Sounds too good to be true? Many of the technological solutions that Fresco proposes involve existing technology and are already being tested out in their 25-acre research center in Venus, Florida (hence, the name).
In 2006, academy award nominated director, William Gazecki, made a documentary about Jacque Fresco in Future by Design
Has since become a movement.
